Judd Lowry

Judd Lowry grew up in Detroit, staying up late on Saturdays to watch creature features with his grandfather. The old man always rooted for the monster. "Look at him," he'd say. "Nobody ever asked him what he wanted." Judd never forgot it.

He spent the next twenty years working nights: club doors first, then overnight security in hospitals and warehouses. At six-foot-five he was the one everyone assumed was trouble, and most nights he was the calmest man in the building.

His books are about the monsters. Exiled to Earth is a monster in a human face, fighting to stay a man. Apocalypse Necromancer follows a morgue attendant who gets the one class everybody fears on the night the world ends. Betrayed by the Hero's Party, I Became the Demon Lord's Healer is about a medic the heroes threw away, who goes to work for the other side.

Judd lives in a river town outside St. Louis, close enough to hear the barges at night. His wife works nights as a nurse and tells him exactly how long a wound should take to heal. When he isn't writing, he's losing at fighting games with the monster character, tapping out first in an over-40 jiu-jitsu class, or fishing for catfish after dark.

His newsletter is where new books show up first.
